You car and property can be at risk from thieves and we offer you helpful tips to discourage thieves. Every time you leave your car make sure the windows and doors are secured – even if you are only away from your car for a few minutes, thieves work quickly. Don't leave personal belongings on display in your car; handbags, mobile phones and wallets, as all attract thieves. Never leave keys in the ignition when the car is unattended – especially when you are at a petrol station.
Take personal belongings with you – if this is not possible, keep them out of site, in the boot or glove box - don't leave them lying around. Make sure you park your car in a well-lit location, as dark streets make it easier for would-be thieves. Improve your cars security by having an immobilizer or alarm fitted – be sure to check that your insurer approves it. Even when driving, keep doors locked and valuables out of sight – thieves often target cars in slow traffic and at traffic lights. Keep your license and fuel card in your wallet, not the glovebox. The owner's handbook should also be stored elsewhere, as it can contain security information and specific details about the car, as well as your personal details.
